Heads up as to what a "merle schnauzer" really is.

Check  out the American Dog Breeders Associations merle colour pattern policy.

Their write up is base on the American Pit bull Terrier, but since the merle colour pattern is being introduced into many different breeds, I feel it applies here.

then click on About ADBA, next click on position statements then the merle colour pattern policy will come up.

There is a ton of information out there, both for and against the merle colour pattern.  If you are interested in a merle dog ( of any breed), please check it out for yourself.

The miniature schnauzer does NOT come in merle.

The only way to have a merle miniature schnauzer is to cross a schnauzer with a dog that does carry the merle gene. Don't let the fact that there is a merle schnauzer registry FOOL you.

The dogs that belong to that registry are miniature schnauzers crossed with miniature australian shepherds. These breeders plan to breed out the aussie with each new generation and keep the merle colour. They don't seem to realize or care that the MERLE GENE is defective. Some breeders feel that if you avoid homozygous breeding you are safe from defects, however even when heterozygous (single allele) merle has been associated with sensory, immunological and neurological problems.
